Microsoft launches Windows Phone 'Mango' OS in India

Windows-Phone-7.5-Mango-updateMicrosoft has launched its new Windows Phone operating system, code named ‘Mango’ in India. The new transitional user interface operating system device known as ‘Metro’. It enables users to quickly find, connect and consume the content that they care about the most.
In this OS, the conventional application icons have been replaced by Live Tiles on the Windows Phone start screen, thus boldly displaying important information at a glance. New Live Tiles can be easily created for applications, websites and music.

The 'People Hub' allows users to collate and keep their contact details in one place - ranging from SIM card to Outlook, LinkedIn to Facebook to Twitter. Besides, the 'What's New' feature in the 'People Hub' lets users see what others are posting, and also lets them comment in real-time. In addition, the 'Group' tile, which lets users organize friends, appears on the start screen, thereby making it easy for users to text or email and IM (instant messaging) people easily, with a single tap. Moreover, the company has integrated the mobile version of its latest Web browser Internet Explorer i.e. IE9, into the new Windows Phone OS to offer users the same browsing expereience they have on a PC.

The new OS also lets users access to Windows Live SkyDrive through their smartphones, allowing them to store data on the cloud. However, the company has set the data storage limit for every user at a generous 25GB. Other interesting features include voice to text, pictures hub, vision search, threads and one button access to Bing search engine.

HTC Radar, Samsung Omnia W and Acer also unveiled handsets running Windows phone 'Mango' OS - HTC Radar, Samsung Omnia W and Acer Allegro, during the Windows Phone OS launch at New Delhi. HTC Radar costs Rs 25,490, while Acer has not yet disclosed Allegro's pricing. Each device includes access to specially localized applications specific to the Indian market. Microsoft also expanded its Windows Phone Marketplace to India in October as part of the launch. Windows Phone users in India are now able to purchase apps and games in the WindowsPhone Marketplace. Previously Indian Windows Phone users have been limited to international marketplaces to obtain apps

HTC Radar first Windows 7.5 Mango OS mobile phone

HTC-Radar-windows-mango-os-phoneThe HTC Radar is the first Windows Phone 7.5 (Mango) phone. The USP here is its OS, which can make or break this phone. Let's find out. The phone's retail box contains earphones, and a charger with detachable USB cable. It does not ship with a memory card. Why? Because the device doesn't have a memory card slot! Out of the 8 GB of onboard storage, the user gets roughly 6.5 GB to pack in all his data. The device measures 4.7" (l) x 2.4" (w) x 0.4" (d), and weighs 137 grams. Its design is minimalist and complements the software inside. The body is made of quality aluminum with a classy finish. The top and bottom ends on the back have rubberized plastic, which provides a superior grip over the device. The HTC Radar is powered by a 1 GHz Snapdragon processor, and has 512 MB RAM. Other specs include a 5 MP rear and VGA front camera, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 3.0, A-GPS, and a 3.5 mm jack.

Mango is the most beautiful and optimized OS I've ever come across on a mobile. Its homescreen sports Live Tiles that are refreshingly different from the old grid of icons found in every other OS. Doing justice to their name, these tiles display relevant information in real-time. Hence, a mere glance on the homescreen gives you an idea of all the activity going on with your phone and contacts.

Swiping the homescreen to the left reveals a list of applications and settings, all of which can be pinned to the homescreen for quick access. Features such as copy-paste and multitasking have been nicely implemented. TheFacebook and Windows Live integration is deep and will please social network junkies.
